Moodlerooms Certified Trainer Program
The purpose of the Individual and Enterprise Moodlerooms Certified Trainer (MRCT) Program is to professionalize, qualify and standardize the delivery of training and materials in online teaching using Moodle. This model provides enterprise instructors who successfully complete training, meet the qualifications and other eligibility requirements with opportunities to become initially certified as co-facilitators, and eventually, lead facilitators of Foundations of Moodle Training courses (Moodle
100/500B and Moodle 101/501) on a Moodlerooms hosted server, and other Moodlerooms Training Department approved courses for clients on their installations. Through it, Moodlerooms also enables enterprises to deploy a scalable, best practice Moodlerooms train-the-trainer model that builds a low cost, sustainable infrastructure to meet ongoing online instruction, professional development and training needs. The MRCT program is scaffold with designations indicating earned levels of qualification. Designations are earned through the satisfactory completion of a prescribed sequence of instructor-led online courses, student teaching practicum, and co-facilitator experiences.
What distinguishes the Moodlerooms Certified Trainer (MRCT) program from most other vendor-sponsored training solutions is that MRCT’s preparation is focused on developing transferrable skills in best practice online instructional design and course delivery, thus eliminating vendor-lock. The MRCT model incorporates standards-based training and is in the final phase of achieving approval as an Authorized Provider the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) Continuing Education Unit (CEU) as certified by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This model also incorporates best practice online instructor preparation integrating a culturally dynamic™ approach. While gaining competency in using Moodle’s basic toolset, the Moodlerooms Certified Trainer program incorporates the following researchbased Best Practices in preparing online instructors:
- The most significant factor affecting student success is the teacher. (SREB, Standards for Quality Online Teaching)
- New online teachers should be trained in online pedagogy and tools before teaching online. (Blomeyer and Kearsley, Preparing K-12 Teachers to Teach Online)
- New online teachers experience a higher degree of success and satisfaction when they are mentored by a seasoned online teacher during their first year of online teaching. (Blomeyer)
- The articulation of duties and standards for online teaching and the opportunity for formative and summative evaluation and feedback are essential to supporting continued professional growth and excellence in teaching. (SREB, Online Teaching Evaluation; Blomeyer)
In keeping with its commitment to high quality instruction, adherence to industry standards and the incorporation of best practices, Moodlerooms is in the final stages of approval by International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to be an Authorized Provider of the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) as recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Moodlerooms certified training process incorporates strategies for designing and delivering online learning environments that are adaptable to accommodate the widest range of disparate learners’ needs across diverse learner populations. Culturally dynamic™ learning environments can be identified as those that best facilitate and sustain:
Classroom Management based upon mutual respect and high expectations for facilitators about
- themselves as teachers and instructional leaders
- their participants/students as individuals with unique contributions to offer
Self-knowledge for teachers and students
- about cultural background, personality, learning styles, multiple intelligences, talents, interests, etc.
- through reflective journaling
Effective Practice in a co-learning community characterized by
- instructors/teachers as facilitators as the “guide at the side” of relevant content in context
- participants/students engaged in collaborative problem-based learning using 21st century tools
Authentic Assessment using portfolios, graphic organizers and rubrics as
- performance appraisal and evaluation instruments for instructors/teachers
- artifacts demonstrating mastery learning and higher order thinking skills
Lifelong Learner competencies across all three domains of learning: cognitive, psychomotor and affective.
Moodle is an open source courseware management system that meets the definition of a culturally dynamic™ learning environment.
